This historic synagogue is in the Old City of Jerusalem, it was founded in the 18th century by Judah he-Hasid, not long afterwards it was destroyed by invading Muslims and the site lay in ruins for 140 years hence the name “Hurva” or ruin. The synagogue was rebuilt only to be destroyed again in the 1948 Arab-Israeli War. Many years later in 2010 the new synagogue, built according to the original design, was complete.
