Church of The Annunciation

This church is built on the site where Catholics believe the annunciation took place. A Crusader Era church and Byzantine church once stood here but the present structure was built in 1969. The church has two levels, the entrance door is to the upper level where a 51 meter high cupola lets natural light into the upper church. On the lower floor of the church is a grotto believed to have been Mary’s childhood home and the place where an angel came to tell her of her future child. On the lower level you can see what remains of the Crusader and Byzantine churches.
